Pearl Care for National Pearl Month

Did you know that June is National Pearl Month? We know, we know. There’s a National “Everything” Month at this point, but pearls are one of our absolute favorites, so who are we not to celebrate by giving them some extra attention?

While pearls can (and should!) be worn everyday, a little extra TLC will keep them looking their best for generations to come.

  • To preserve your pearls’ radiance, always keep them away from cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes or other harsh chemicals.
  • Pearls should be last thing you put on each day, after your makeup and clothes.
  • Keep pearls out of direct sunlight or extremely hot temperatures.
  • When removing pearls at the end of the day, wipe down gently with a soft cloth before putting away.
  • To store pearls, always clasp before placing in an individual compartment in your jewelry box or vanity.
  • When traveling, keep pearls separate in a protective jewelry pouch.
  • To keep pearl jewelry from becoming weak, it’s recommended that you have them restrung each year.
  • Leave the cleaning (other than wiping down with a soft cloth) to a specialist. Ultrasonic jewelry cleaner can damage pearls.
  • Lastly, when pearls are stored too long they can actually dehydrate! Moral of the story: wear and enjoy your pearls regularly!

And now for a little more pearl eye candy, because we just can’t get enough.
