The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, will take place in the historic city of Paris from July 26th to August 11th. This prestigious event marks the return of the Olympics to Paris, which previously hosted the Games in 1900 and 1924. Paris 2024 is set to be an extraordinary celebration of athletic prowess, cultural heritage, and global unity.

An exciting innovation this year is the opening ceremony, which will be held outside of a stadium for the first time ever. More than 6,000 athletes will parade on 85 barges and boats along the Seine River from the Pont d’Austerlitz to the Trocadéro near the Eiffel Tower. An audience of around 500,000 people is set to watch in person along the riverbanks and from nearby overlooks. The cityscape and iconic Paris monuments will showcase the beauty and history of the city in a way that exceeds what a traditional ceremony could. This complex event has not been rehearsed in full, so let’s hope for smooth sailing.

The Games will feature over 10,500 athletes from 206 countries competing in 329 events across 32 sports. Breakdancing makes its Olympic debut this year, joining other sports returning for the second time from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics: sport climbing, skateboarding, surfing, and 3×3 basketball. As the World’s best athletes compete at Paris 2024, Omega will be there to measure every result.
