Looking for a ring just as unique as your love story? Create the custom engagement ring of your dreams in our Bailey’s Custom Workshop. Starting your jewelry design is simple as can be. Our talented jewelers love nothing more than bringing your dreams to life and are eager to help you create the perfect unique ring.

Designing the ring you’ll wear to represent your love with your fiance-to-be is an amazing experience. You’ll end up with something that matches your tastes exactly and perfectly reflects your personality, lifestyle, and love story. Oh, and it doesn’t have to be any more expensive than buying out of the case!

To start, contact us or come into any Bailey’s location. From there we’ll set up a consultation with one of our expert jewelers and work with you to design the ring. Then we’ll generate a CAD rendering, create a mold for your approval, and our master craftsmen will get to work on crafting your one-of-a-kind creation. Read on for a step-by-step breakdown of our custom design process!

Step One: Discovery

When you meet with one of our jewelry experts, couples can come in together or on their own. Often, couples find it easiest to create the piece together. We’ll begin by chatting through your ideas, timeline, and budget to gather all the information we need.

After we talk you through the process, we’ll dive into the ring of your dreams! We love when couples show us their inspiration! We suggest creating a Pinterest board of styles you love or bringing in some pictures. We’ll review what you like and don’t like about different styles, and we’ll make sure you’re in love with the design before we start crafting it.

Don’t be afraid to get creative! It’s fun to add personalized elements in the band detail or engrave a special note on the inside. Did you meet in Raleigh? You could incorporate an oak leaf in your band! Not interested in a diamond center stone? No problem, try a sapphire, ruby, or almost any stone you like! The opportunities are endless. Your jewelry design can be as classic and simple, or as unique and ornate as you like. This is your ring. We’re just here to make it happen!

Step Two: Pick Your Diamond

When you’re ready, you can hand-select your center diamond, or other center stone of your choosing, with one of our jewelry experts. We’ll educate you about the 4Cs: Color, Cut, Clarity, and Carats, so you have all the information on diamond quality you need before buying a diamond. We’ll help you select the perfect diamond based on your unique preferences.

We have access to stunning diamonds at every price point so you’re sure to find the perfect stone. If you already have a diamond you would like to use or have a diamond that’s been passed down by a loved one, we can incorporate that stone into your jewelry as well. It is always so special to incorporate a family heirloom into a new piece.

Step Three: Design

After we get all the details, we’ll mock-up your creation using our state-of-the-art CAD (computer aided design) systems to create a 3D image. We’ll also create a wax model for you to try on. The diamond or center-stone you select can be placed into the wax model so you can see how the finished product will look on your finger.

Step Four: Review

After the 3D image and wax model is created, we’ll have you come into Bailey’s to review them with your jeweler. You can try on the wax model to ensure it fits, and that you love the way your ring looks on your finger. We can even put your center stone into the wax model so you can see how it will sit in the setting. After reviewing, you can let us know if any changes need to be made before we begin crafting your creation. We’ll make sure you’re happy with every last detail!

STEP FIVE: CREATION

Once the jewelry design is finalized, our jewelers will begin to craft your custom engagement ring. Bailey employs master craftsmen that are some of the most skilled in their trade, and your jewelry will be made on-site at Bailey’s. Each stone will be hand-selected, the metal will be cast, and each stone will be set all by our amazing jewelers. After your new bling is complete we will clean and polish it for a stunning shine.

Step Six: Proposal

Once the ring is completed, it’s time to pop the question! Couples can come to the store to pick it up together, or the bride-to-be can see the finished product for the first time at a surprise proposal. So never fear, even if you create the design together you can still keep the element of surprise! It’s completely up to you!
