RALEIGH, NC (Aug. 16, 2010) – A few lucky Triangle drivers will have the opportunity to test drive the Tesla Roadster, the world’s only highway-capable electric vehicle, on Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 11a.m. to 5p.m. at Bailey’s Fine Jewelry in Cameron Village. The luxury roadster is considered an instant collector’s item and there are just over 1,200 on the road today. There will be two roadsters at the event, with one available for test drives for those who register in advance.
The Tesla Roadster is twice as energy efficient as most hybrids and can travel 245 miles on one electric charge, with each charge costing less than five dollars. It features a 288 horsepower electric motor and reaches 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The roadster retails at a base price of $109,000.
The energy-efficient electric sports car is coming to Raleigh as part of the Odyssey of Pioneers tour, a collaboration between Tesla, an American-based car manufacturer, and TAG Heuer, a Swiss watchmaker, in honor of TAG Heuer’s 150th year in business. The Odyssey of Pioneers tour centers around the 2010 TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster, a luxury sports car that combines classic Tesla Roadster features with TAG Heuer elements of design.
Over the past five months, the demonstration Roadster has traveled over 10,000 miles across Europe, Asia and the United States for the Odyssey of Pioneers tour. Raleigh is one of the Roadster’s last stops – the tour ends Aug. 27 in Washington, D.C.
